Terms & Conditions: Clique competitions and monthly Challenges

The following terms and conditions are applicable to the events, programs and activities offered by the Clique Photo Club. These terms are an integral part of, and should be read in conjunction with, the Clique General Terms and Conditions. Please refer to this link to review the Conditions.

Clique Monthly Challenges 2017

  1. Entry into the Clique Monthly Challenges is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions. The Clique General Terms and Conditions also apply. These competition terms and conditions override the Clique General Terms and Conditions to the extent of any inconsistency.
  2. Entry is open to all Clique members, except any current employee or contributor of Fairfax Media’s photographic department in Australia or New Zealand.
  3. The competition is a game of skill and chance plays no part in determining the winner.
  4. The competition commences on 31 January 2017 at 00:00 (AEDT) and concludes on 11 December 2017 at 23:59 (AEDT) (Promotional Period).
  5. To enter, participants must send an image representing the Challenge theme selected and announced by us. Minimum 600KB, maximum 2MB, and 300 dpi in JPEG form. You are encouraged to include a caption (up to 500 characters) with your entry.
  6. Entries for all Clique Monthly Challenges in 2017 must have been made on or after 1 January 2017. Images can be no older than 1 January 2017.

Dates may be subject to change for any reason by Fairfax. Any changes will be updated in these terms and conditions.

  • Entries should be submitted via the Clique website at cliquephotos.com.au. Entrants must be a member of Clique to submit an entry.
  • Entrants can make one entry per Challenge. Entrants can make changes for their entry in the Clique website, up until the deadline of each Challenge.
  • Each valid entrant who has entered the competition over the duration of the Promotional Period will be judged by staff from Fairfax and Clique guest judges, based on the creative merit of the image submitted.
  • A limited amount of image post-processing is allowed, but images having excessive “manipulation” (in the opinion of the judge/s) may be scored down.
  • Each month, the Promoter will select the best image entered and this image will be published in print and online in The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and any other Fairfax publication as determined by us.
  • Each month the following Challenge prizes with be awarded to the winner:

a 12″x16″ framed print of the winning image, or another image from the archive at Fairfax Syndication, as selected by the winner.

a 30 minute portfolio review session with a Fairfax photographer at the office of Fairfax in Sydney or Melbourne. Transport and accommodation costs are not included. If the winner cannot attend the review session in person, a telephone review can be arranged.

  • Prizes will be announced and distributed over the Promotional Period. Subject to the applicable terms and conditions, prizes will be awarded to the person named in the entry.By entering the competition, the winners agree to participate in and co-operate as required with all reasonable media editorial requests relating to the prize, including but not limited to, being interviewed, photographed and/or filmed by the Promoter.
  • The Promoter’s decision is final and the Promoter will not enter into correspondence regarding the competition result.
  • In the case of the intervention of any outside act, agent or event which prevents or significantly hinders the Promoter’s ability to proceed with the competition on the dates and in the manner described in these terms and conditions, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, tempests, natural disasters, acts of God, civil unrest, strike, war, act of terrorism, the Promoter may in its absolute discretion cancel the competition and recommence it from the start on the same conditions.
  • The Promoter and any agencies or companies associated with the competition shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) or for any personal injury suffered or sustained in connection with any prize except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law. The Promoter is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, either caused by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilised in this competition, or for any technical error, or any combination thereof that may occur in the course of the administration of this competition including any omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line or satellite network failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to or alteration of entries.
  • The Promoter reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who the Promoter has reason to believe has breached any of these conditions or the Clique General Terms and Conditions, or engaged in any unlawful or other improper misconduct calculated to jeopardise the fair and proper conduct of the promotion.
  • If for any reason this competition is not capable of running as planned, including due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any causes beyond the control of the Promoter, which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or integrity or proper conduct of this promotion, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, take any action that may be available, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition.

  • These terms and conditions will be governed by the laws of New South Wales. Entrants submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in New South Wales.

Clique / Nikon People’s Choice Award 2017

  1. Entry into the Clique Monthly Challenges is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions. The Clique General Terms and Conditions also apply. These competition terms and conditions override the Clique General Terms and Conditions to the extent of any inconsistency.
  2. To enter, participants must send an image representing the Challenge theme selected and announced by us. Each month a selection of Challenge entries will be chosen by us or our representative, and posted online for voting in the Clique People’s Choice Award.
  3. The competition is a game of skill and chance plays no part in determining the winner.
  4. The competition commences on 31 January 2017 at 00:00 (AEDT) and concludes on 11 December 2017 at 23:59 (AEDT) (Promotional Period).
  5. Voting in the Clique People’s Choice Award is open to all Clique members. Each Clique member can only vote once per Challenge. Once submitted, members cannot change their vote.
  6. Voting in the Clique People’s Choice Award commences on the last Thursday of each month, and concludes following Tuesday, 10am AEST/AEDT.

  9. After the deadline, Clique will tally the votes and award the Clique People’s Choice Award to the member with the most votes.
  10. Fairfax uses its best endeavours to monitor online voting, however makes no warranties or representations in relation to the voting process or voter compliance with these terms and conditions.
  11. Prizes will be announced and distributed over the Promotional Period. Subject to the applicable terms and conditions, prizes will be awarded to the person named in the entry.
  12. The Clique People’s Choice Award winner will receive a prize to be announced,
  13. The winner of the Clique People’s Choice Award will be announced on the Clique Photos Facebook page each month.
  14. By entering the competition, the winners agree to participate in and co-operate as required with all reasonable media editorial requests relating to the prize, including but not limited to, being interviewed, photographed and/or filmed by the Promoter.
  15. The Promoter’s decision is final and the Promoter will not enter into correspondence regarding the competition result.
  16. In the case of the intervention of any outside act, agent or event which prevents or significantly hinders the Promoter’s ability to proceed with the competition on the dates and in the manner described in these terms and conditions, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, tempests, natural disasters, acts of God, civil unrest, strike, war, act of terrorism, the Promoter may in its absolute discretion cancel the competition and recommence it from the start on the same conditions.

Clique Photographer of the Year Award 2017

  1. Entry into the Clique Monthly Challenges is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions. The Clique General Terms and Conditions also apply. These competition terms and conditions override the Clique General Terms and Conditions to the extent of any inconsistency
  2. Entry is open to all Clique members who have submitted a minimum of 3 entries in the Clique monthly Challenges (February – November) during 2017, except any current employee or contributor of Fairfax Media’s photographic department in Australia or New Zealand.
  3. The competition is a game of skill and chance plays no part in determining the winner.
  4. Entries for the Clique Photographer of The Year 2017 commence on 31 January 2017 at 00:00 (AEDT) and conclude on 11th December 2017 at 12:00 (AEDT) (Promotional Period).
  5. To enter, participants must re-submit a portfolio of entries (minimum 3, maximum 10) from the Clique monthly Challenges in 2017. These images must be the images that were entered for each monthly Challenge.
  6. Important dates for the Clique Photographer of the Year 2017 are:
    • Photographer of The Year 2017 entries open: Tuesday 28th November 2017.
    • Photographer of The Year 2017 deadline: Monday 11th December 2017, 12:00pm AEDT.
    • Photographer of The Year 2017 winner announcement: Saturday 16th December 2017.
  7. Entries should be submitted via the Clique website at cliquephotos.com.au. Entrants must be a member of Clique to submit an entry.
  8. Each valid entrant who has entered the competition over the duration of the Promotional Period will be judged by staff from Fairfax and Clique guest judge/s, based on the creative merit of the images submitted.
  9. A limited amount of image post-processing is allowed, but images having excessive “manipulation” (in the opinion of the judge/s) may be scored down.
  10. After the deadline Monday 11th December 2017, 12:00pm AEDT, the Promoter will select the best image/s entered and these images will be published in print and online in The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and any other Fairfax publication as determined by us.
  11. At the conclusion of the Promotional Period the following prizes with be awarded to the winner:
  12. 1-month internship with the photography department of the Sydney Morning Herald or The Age. Transport and accommodation costs are not included.
  13. 30-minute portfolio review session with a Fairfax photographer at the offices of Fairfax Media in Sydney or Melbourne. Transport and accommodation costs are not included. If the winner can not attend the review session in person, a telephone review can be arranged.

Traveller Big Picture Competition: September 2016 – February 2017

  1. Information on how to enter and prize information forms part of the terms of entry. Entry into the competition is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions. The Clique General Terms and Conditions also apply. These competition terms and conditions override the Clique General Terms of Use to the extent of any inconsistency.
  2. Only amateur photographers can enter this competition. Amateur photographer is defined as any photographer who earns less than $10,000 a year from the sale of photographs or photographic services eg tutoring for a fee. Fairfax reserves the right to seek a statutory declaration in regards to income.
  3. Entrants must be registered as a member of Clique or Student Clique.
  4. Employees and their immediate families of Fairfax Media Publications Pty Limited, APT and their associated agencies and related companies (including Fairfax Media companies) are not eligible to enter.
  5. The promotion is a game of skill, and chance plays no part in determining the winner.
  6. The promotion commences on September 9, 2016 at 00:01 (AEST) and concludes on February 10, 2017 at 23:59 (AEDT) (the promotional period).
  7. Entries should be uploaded to cliquephotos,com.au Receipt will be acknowledged by email.
  8. Entrants must send images of a special moment from their travels on or after January 1, 2015 (minimum 600KB, maximum 2MB, and 300 dpi in JPEG form). To help in the judging of their images, we suggest that entrants submit a caption of 100 words or less, including where and when the image was taken and what made it so memorable for them.
  9. Illegible, incomprehensible and incomplete entries will be deemed invalid.
  10. The maximum number of entries per week from any one entrant is two.
  11. A limited amount of image post-processing is allowed, but images having excessive ‘manipulation’ (in the opinion of the judges, and at the judges’ sole discretion) may be scored down.
  12. Computer generated images will not be accepted.
  13. Images that have won in any prior Fairfax photography competitions are not eligible for entry.
  14. Images that have been entered in any prior Big Picture photography competitions are not eligible for entry.
  15. All images must be the entrant’s own original work and have been taken by the entrant on or after January 1, 2015.
  16. All entries must not infringe upon the legal rights, including copyrights, trademarks, contract rights, or any other intellectual property rights of any other person or entity.

JUDGING

  1. Each week during the promotional period Fairfax Media will select from valid entries the best image, based on the creative merit of the images as judged by its editorial staff, and this image will be published in Traveller. Fairfax Media will also regularly run galleries online at traveller.com.au of other images it has selected from entries as the best images.
  2. One of the valid entries chosen from all those images selected in accordance with clause 15 will be selected by a panel of judges (to be announced) as the winner. The selection of the winner will take place between February 11, 2017 to February 24, 2017 at Fairfax Media Publications Pty Limited, 1 Darling Island Road, Pyrmont NSW 2009 and Fairfax Media L2, Media House, 655 Collins Street, Docklands VIC 3008.
  3. The winner will be notified within 7 days of the selection of their entry of their prize by phone and email using the contact details they provided.
  4. The prize will be awarded to the person named in the entry. However, in a dispute, it will be awarded to the account holder of the entry mechanism used to submit their entry.
  5. The Promoter’s selection of the winner and any aspect of this promotion is final and binding on all entrants and no correspondence will be entered into. Any failure by the Promoter to enforces any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.
  6. Details of the winner will be published in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age newspapers on March 4, 2017.
  7. The Promoter reserves the right to request the winner to provide proof of identity, proof of residency at the nominated prize delivery address and/or proof of entry validity in order to claim a prize. Proof of identification, residency and entry considered suitable for verification is at the discretion of the Promoter. In the event that a winner cannot provide suitable proof, the winner will forfeit the prize in whole and no substitute will be offered.
  8. The Promoter reserves the right to verify at any time the validity of entries and to reject or disqualify any entry which, in the opinion of Promoter, is incomplete or indecipherable or includes objectionable content, profanity, potentially insulting, inflammatory or defamatory statements or breaches any other person or entity’s legal rights. The Promoter may also disqualify any entrant who tampers with the entry process, who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Terms & Conditions of Entry or who has, in the opinion of Promoter, engaged in conduct in entering the Promotion which is fraudulent, misleading, deceptive or generally damaging to the goodwill or reputation of the promotion and/or Promoter. The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify a winner if the Promoter becomes aware that the winner and/or the winner’s entry is of a type described in this clause.
  9. Entries must be received by 23:59 (AEDT) February 10, 2017. The time of entry will in each case be the time the entry is received by the Promoter. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any late, lost or misdirected entries not received by the Promoter or delays in the delivery due to technical disruptions, network congestion or for any other reason.
  10. Any entry that is made on behalf of an entrant by a third party or by an organisation will be invalid.

REGARDING THE PRIZE

  1. The Winner and a guest will receive the following prize valued at up to $17,390:

A good level of health and fitness is required to participate on our holiday packages and we ask you advise a representative of APT of any medical conditions at the time of booking.*Total estimated prize value of the prize may fluctuate due to time of year trip is taken, in relation to high and low seasons, and is based on 2016 pricing. The value of this prize, itinerary and inclusions are correct at time of printing and subject to change at any time. Any change to the prize between the publishing date and the date the prize is claimed is not the responsibility of the promoter(s). The value of the prize is correct as at time of printing.
  10. Flights are subject to availability and confirmation and may, in APT’s discretion, be limited to non-peak periods. Any unused portion of the ticket after the expiry date shall be deemed null and void.
  11. Flight tickets will not attract Frequent Flyer Points nor will they be eligible for upgrades using Frequent Flyer Points and/or cash payment.
  12. Flights for both prize tickets must be taken together and cannot be used separately.
  13. Flight, cruise and accommodation reservations should be made by no later than 31 March 2017.
  14. Accommodations provided will be a twin/double room.
  15. The prize winner is welcome to extend their stay at their own cost. Arrangements can be made with APT for a quotation and booking.
  16. The winner is responsible for all non-airline ticket related airport or other taxes or government surcharges involved, travel costs to and from the point of departure, accommodation which falls outside of the stipulated prize package, spending money, travel insurance, freight, excess baggage, meals, ground transportation, passport/entry visas and any other expenses.
  17. It is a condition of claiming the prize that the winner take out adequate travel insurance for the duration of the period and provide evidence of such insurance to the Promoter and/or APT upon request.
  18. A credit card imprint or cash deposit may be required from the winner at check-in to the resort, for all incidental charges.
  19. It is the personal responsibility of those travelling to ensure that they have valid documentation, including but not limited to valid passports (minimum 6 months validity) and visas, which meet the requirements of immigration and other government authorities at the destination. Any fines, penalties, payments or expenditures incurred as a result of such documents not meeting the requirements of those authorities will be the sole responsibility of the travellers.
  20. The Promoter makes no representation as to the safety, standards or conditions that may exist or be experience at any destination. International travel advice can be obtained from various sources, including government, local consular offices and the web site of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
  21. The prize cannot be transferred and cannot be redeemed for cash. No responsibility is accepted for any variation in the value of the prize.
  22. If the prize is unavailable, for whatever reason, the Promoter reserves the right to substitute the prize for a prize of equal or greater value.
  23. The Promoter reserves the right to refuse to allow a winner to take part in any or all aspects of the prize, if the promoter determines, in their absolute discretion, that a winner is not in the mental or physical condition necessary to be able to safely participate in the prize. It is a condition of accepting the prize that the winner may be required to sign a legal release in a form determined by the Promoter in its absolute discretion.
  24. By accepting the prize, the winner agrees to participate in and co-operate as required with all reasonable media editorial requests relating to the prize, including but not limited to, being interviewed and photographed, filmed throughout the duration of the prize.

In consideration for the Promoter awarding the prize to the winner, the winner hereby irrevocably assigns to the Promoter all right, title and interest in and to all copyright and other intellectual property rights in any material created pursuant to the winner’s participation in any aspect of the prize (Works). The winner acknowledges that the Promoter is free to use the Works and to exercise its rights in relation to the Works unencumbered and the winner will not be entitled to any fee for such use.
  26. In consideration for the Promoter awarding the prize to the winner, the winner hereby permits the winner’s image and/or voice, as recorded, photographed or filmed during the winner’s participation in the prize to appear in connection with Fairfax Media or the advertising or marketing thereof, in any media whatsoever throughout the world and the winner will not be entitled to any fee or other compensation for such use.
  27. If for any reason whatsoever a winner does not take an element of the prize at the time stipulated by the Promoter then that element of the prize will be forfeited by the winner and cash will not be awarded in lieu of that element of the prize.
  28. Prize values are based upon the recommended retail prices at the time of printing (inclusive of GST). The promoter accepts no responsibility for change in prize value between now and the ultimate prize redemption date.
  29. Should an entrant’s contact details change during the promotional period, it is the entrant’s responsibility to notify the Promoter. A request to access or modify any information provided in an entry should be directed to the Promoter using the same email address.

Clique September 2017 Challenge Terms & Conditions – Shoot The Chef

  1. Entry into the Clique September 2017 Challenge (Shoot the Chef) is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions. The Clique General Terms and Conditions also apply. These competition terms and conditions override the Clique General Terms and Conditions to the extent of any inconsistency.
  2. Entry into Shoot the Chef is open to all Clique members who are residents of Australia, excluding employees of the Promoter and their immediate families.

  4. The competition commences on August 29, 2017 at 00:01 (AEST) and concludes on September 25, 2017 at 12:00 (AEST) (Promotional Period).
  5. Entries in Shoot the Chef must have been made on or after 1 October 2016.
  6. To enter, participants must send an image representing the Shoot the Chef theme. Minimum 600KB, maximum 2MB, and 300 dpi in JPEG form. You are encouraged to include a caption (up to 500 characters) with your entry.

  11. The winner of Shoot the Chef will receive:
    1-month internship with the photography department of the Sydney Morning Herald or The Age.

  12. If the winner of Shoot the Chef is aged 16 years or younger, any prize money will be given into the trust of the relevant parent or guardian. If the winner of Shoot the Chef is aged 17 years or younger, they must have the permission of a parent or legal guardian to accept the travel and accommodation component of the prize. They must also have adult supervision for the duration of the travel and accommodation component of the prize.
  13. The winner is wholly responsible for taking out insurance in relation to the prize at their own cost. The prize does not include insurance and the Promoter’s insurance does not cover any aspect of the prize claimed by the winner.

If the winner is resident outside Sydney and is required to fly to claim the prize, it is a condition of claiming the prize that the winner must produce proof of purchase of a travel insurance policy for the duration of the prize, from date of departure to the date of return.
