Environmental portraiture: your brief for the July Clique Challenge

Theme: Environmental Portraiture
Deadline: Monday, July 24 at 12 noon AEST

Our July Challenge theme is “Environmental Portraiture”.

Environmental portraiture is a portrait that includes the subject’s surrounding environment. This type of portraiture aims to provide clues to a person’s tastes, hobbies, job or background. Whether this is photographing an artist in their studio, or of a farmer amongst their livestock on a farm.

Your entry can feature more than one subject. Choose your portrait subject/s wisely and shoot with the intention of creating a frame that adds depth to the subject.

Take some inspiration from Fairfax photographers and the archives of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. Environmental portraits are a great way to give our readers insight into who and what a story is about.

The winner of the July Challenge will receive the following prizes:

  • Adobe: A 12-month subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan.
  • Momento Photo Books: A $100 voucher.
  • PosterCandy: A custom poster.
  • Tulloch Wines: A $100 bottle of wine.
  • Fairfax Photographic: A portfolio review by a Fairfax Media photographer from The Sydney Morning Herald or The Age.
  • Fairfax Syndication: A framed 16×20 inch print of your winning photo or a photo from the Fairfax Syndication archive
